Does what you read, see and hear influence your mind and mood? Plus movement tip

The above photo shows the books I will read this year and I’ll probably add a few more to the pile. I love reading because I enjoy learning and as you will see from the book titles these reads will provide further knowledge and inspiration for my classes, so you could say I’m choosing to invest in my future self and yours.

There was a study done in 2009 by the university of Sussex which was reported by the Telegraph, these findings were based on the results by cognitive neuropsychologist Dr. David Lewis . Dr D. Lewis suggests that 6 minutes of reading can reduce stress levels by 68%.

My favourite time to read is at bedtime it really helps me to wind down and disengage from my day. I always keep a jounal and a highlighter next to me while I read as I often come across inspirational quotes or something thats resonates with me, doing this allows my mind to be clutter free. Now theres a tip for emptying the mind before bedtime, If you have a to do list in your head for the next day get it out of your mind and write it down. In my opinion reading, writing and reflecting are all types of self care and will imprint on your mind aiding you to live a happier authentic life.

Reading can also provide escapism and fills your mind with knowledge and exciting possibilites, so set yourself a challenge of reading everynight for the next 30 days and see if your sleep and wellbeing improve.

The oldest medical system ‘Ayurveda’ suggests we are what we eat, drink, breathe, see, taste and touch and that all our experiences effect our mind, body and how we feel. So as you wisely choose the company you keep perhaps apply this to your book choices too, ask yourself:

How do I want to feel when I read this book ? Empowered, motivated, educated?

Make a conscious choice to lead by example too, be that positive influencer in your family because if you have children/grandchildren they’re more likely to read if they see you reading.

Movement tip: Take what you learn in class on the mat into your everyday life and get curious of the way you position your body.

On the mat you routinely move the pelvis forward and backward to increase your awareness of the effects of such a subtle yet profound movement. You know that if you move the pelvis forward (anterior tilt) in an exaggerated fashion this negatively effects the lumbar spine and it’s the same if you move it backward (posterior tilt). This movement is like life we strive to find that balance between the two, consider next time how you sit at your work desk or a table to eat, how you stand, how you sit when you drive and meditate.

Once you develop that inner curiosity then you can make shifts in your habitual movement patterns and you’ll notice a simple micro movement can have such a huge postitive impact.

Remember love yourself, your body, appreciate all that it does for you and be kind to it.

Love and light

Tara

Well i usually have two books on the go at a time, fiction and non-fiction in either hardback or paperback and kindle. So I must be pretty unstressed.

Quite intrigued by Tara’s pile of books. I must order some of them from the library, Which I can recommend as the books only cost me 25p each. I think I may add a representative sample of some of my favourite reading in picture form. Seems an effective way of doing it.

Yes unstressed Susan and very knowledgeable you are. I think its great the library can offer this at such a low cost and sometimes its good to try before you buy as there are certain books you want to buy and keep going back to.
